Prime Focus has completed post production on a new commercial from director Chris Hartwill to promote the city of Istanbul as the 2010 European Capital of Culture. The campaign, which will be promoted in 20 countries, was created by RPM/Radar Advertising & Ajans Ultra and the commercial was made by F Stop Productions.
Chris Hartwill shot 35mm film day and night from a helicopter, capturing Istanbul's art, architecture, industry and history. The story of the spot starts with a young globetrotting couple who arrive in Istanbul by boat at dawn. Then we witness a journey through the galleries, monuments, shops and nightlife of this inspirational city.
Prime Focus Colourist Duncan Russell said of the grade, "The key was keeping a consistently glossy look but at the same time paying attention to all the various different atmospheres they wanted throughout the day. You are selling Istanbul as a city of culture so it needed to be super-glamorous and sophisticated while blending in the ancient and the modern. We started on Pogle, spending 2 days going up and down the cans of 35mm film that Chris had shot. Tim Davies worked his magic in Flame and then I did a DCP afterwards in Baselight."
