'Beauty and the Beast' delivers a record setting $170 million U.S. opening

Disney's live-action re-telling of its classic animated tale 'Beauty and the Beast' has delivered summer blockbuster box office numbers in March, debuting with the seventh largest U.S. opening of all-time. Prime Focus World was the exclusive 3D conversion partner on the movie.

Despite fierce competition from 'Kong: Skull Island' and 'Logan', Disney's 'tale as old as time' took an estimated $170 million in the U.S. over its opening weekend, topping the previous March opening weekend record set by 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' last year.

Internationally, 'Beauty and the Beast' took an estimated $180 million from 44 markets for a $350 million global opening, and it ruled the box office in the #1 spot in all but three of the territories in which it released. It also received a coveted 'A' CinemaScore from opening day audiences.
