'Kong: Skull Island' reigns at the Box Office with $61 million opening weekend

Kong: Skull Island, Warner Bros. Pictures’, Legendary Pictures’ and Tencent Pictures’ epic re-imagining of the Kong myth, thundered to the top of the U.S Box Office, earning a mighty $61 million from 3,846 theaters, against fierce competition from ‘X-Men' film 'Logan' and the horror movie 'Get Out'. Overseas, Kong: Skull Island opened to $81.6 million from 65 markets — minus China, where it hits theaters March 24 — for a global haul of $142.6 million.

'Kong: Skull Island' tells the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers uniting to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. Helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, its stellar cast is led by Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson and John C. Reilly.
