'Maleficent' reigns supreme at Chinese Box Office

Despite internet rumours of a boycott, Angelina Jolie reigned supreme at the Chinese box office with Maleficent, writes Film Business Asia.

On its first three days in cinemas, the Disney fantasy film made RMB 136 million (US$ 21.8 million) from approximately 3.57 million admissions. Released in 3D and IMAX 3D, the film accounted for approximately 32.5% of all screenings nationwide.

Edge of Tomorrow dropped to third place with RMB 30.8 million (US$ 4.95 million) in its third weekend. After 17 days in Chinese cinemas, the Doug Liman directed film has made RMB 382 million (US$ 61.4 million).
