LOS ANGELES - Prime Focus World participated Wednesday in a Q&A panel hosted by the International 3D and Advanced Imaging Society at Paramount Pictures following a special screening of Darren Aronofsky’s 'Noah' in 3D. PFW Founder and CEO Namit Malhotra and Senior Stereo Supervisor Benedict Murray sat alongside Corey Turner, Vice President of Post Production at Paramount Pictures and Aaron Parry, EVP and Chief Creative Officer at Deluxe 3D. Each of the panel members took turns describing the process of converting the international hit to stereo (3D), as well as the current state of 3D as a storytelling tool available to filmmakers.
Namit emphasized that the tool is beginning to attract directors of all types of stories, with Ben adding that the quality of 3D due to improved technology is helping it become more accepted by audiences. Corey indulged the audience with some hints at the subtle differences between the 2D and 3D versions, saying that the changes made an impact on how the story worked best for each format while staying true to the story that the director wanted to tell.
The release of 'Noah' in 3D in international markets has contributed to its major success, bringing the worldwide box office gross to more than $300 million this week, compared to nearly $100 million domestically.
Prime Focus World is proud to have converted 81 minutes of the 135 minute film to stereo 3D. Corey Turner thanked all creative teams involved for their dedication to the show’s success.
