Gravity was the big winner last night at the 12th Annual VES Awards in Los Angeles, scooping six awards including the main prize of 'Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-driven Feature Motion Picture'. Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón was also personally honoured at the awards, with the special VES Visionary Award, awarded by the VES board of Directors in honour of his great contribution to visual effects. The award was presented to him at the lavish ceremony by star of Gravity, Sandra Bullock.
Speaking of his award, Cuarón said "Finally visual effects are merging into the whole process of the cinematic experience."
Prime Focus World was in attendance as a sponsor of the awards ceremony, and in addition to being the exclusive 3D conversion partner Gravity, also saw its VFX contributions to both The Geat Gatsby and White House Down recognised with nominations in the 'Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture' category.
Our congratulations to Alfonso, Tim Webber and the Framestore team, and all the winners and nominees at the awards.
