Scott Cooper’s new film Out of the Furnace screened Saturday night at the AFI Fest in Hollywood, and the deeply moving script and performances are winning over critics for their dramatic intensity. Christian Bale shines in what some are calling the finest performance of his career. The reviews also include praise for Masanobu Takayanagi’s artful photography in the film.
Prime Focus World worked with VFX supervisor Raymond Gieringer on invisible effects for the period look of the picture as part of its ongoing partnership on Relativity films. Invisible effects included the removal of incongruous modern-day elements, sky enhancements, rig removal, and monitor inserts, all intended to be “invisible” to the audience. Out of the Furnace opens to U.S. theaters December 6.
