The Prime Focus World has delivered 294 VFX shots for Relativity Media’s ensemble comedy, Movie 43. A team of 30 artists led by VFX Supervisor Shailendra Swarnkar delivered the shots from PFW’s facility in Mumbai.
Described as a 21st century version of raunchy seventies sketch-comedy classics The Kentucky Fried Movie and The Groove Tube, Movie 43 assembles an ‘A’ list Hollywood cast including Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman, who star in a series of fourteen ‘shorts’ directed by filmmakers such as Peter Farrelly, Steve Carr and Brett Ratner.
One of PFW’s main challenges on the movie was the numerous prosthetic make-up fixes required. The team digitally retouched the original shots frame-by-frame to create a seamless look that matched the prosthetics to the actual skin tones of the characters. For these shots, extensive rotoscoping and paint work was carried out, followed by colour correction to complete the look. The PFW team also delivered explosion and fire enhancements, rig removal, matte painting, chroma work and clean-up shots in order to make the destruction sequence at the climax of the movie even more impressive, and the extensive motion graphics and screen replacement shots that were required throughout the movie.
Movie 43 released in US and UK theaters on 25th January 2013.
