Merzin's influential career has spanned 19 years, hundreds of films, thousands of people and three continents... so far.
As Chief Creative Director and Co-Founder of Prime Focus, Merzin has been an integral leader in the company since its inception. A driving component in the company's technology and services evolution, Merzin and the Mumbai-based teams that work for him have been vital to the company's global expansion and foothold in cinema around the world.
In 1995 Merzin partnered with Namit Malhotra, founder and CEO of Prime Focus World, and fellow Co-Founders Prakash Kurup and Huzefa Lokhandwala, to form the concept of Prime Focus. Hell-bent on providing creative digital service solutions to the Bollywood entertainment industry as a whole, the four united to put their skills and passions to work building a company to surpass all expectations.
The four believed that the emergence of digital technology solutions provided them the unique opportunity to help evolve the film business and their own prolific passions. Beginning with one editorial system and an endless supply of creative aspirations, they set forth building the advertising post-production company that became Prime Focus. Though the technology enabled their productivity, it was their cooperation and the balance of visionary skills amongst them that empowered the founders to make the impossible, possible.
The talents that Merzin brought to the initial projects would go on to expand and take many forms, but none of them more influential than that of creative leader. As the company sought out new technology, it was Merzin who transitioned from one platform to the next, perfecting his ability to manipulate the tools in service to the client. Known as a bastion of Hollywood film knowledge and how these films are made, Merzin became a driving-force behind the company's evolution, its projects, its toolset and its creative desires. In his lust to try new things, Merzin quickly became Namit's go-to ally for new company expansion strategies and a creative solutions partner for clients the world over.
As a man with a unique ability to both lead and create, Merzin has guided teams on countless international projects, shaped the careers and lives of many artists and producers, and become a mentor to creative people and problem solvers around the globe. He has delivered some of the biggest and most recognized Hollywood and Bollywood projects including Gravity (2013), Guzaarish (2010), White House Down (2013), Mirror, Mirror (2012), Scream 4 (2011), Houseful 2 (2012), Blue (2009), and Ghajini (2008). In 2010, Merzin built a team of 2,000 artist and professionals to establish Prime Focus' View-D™ 3D conversion pipeline in India. The pioneering pipeline has been delivering 3D films to Hollywood and the globe ever since.
As Chief Creative Director, Merzin has recently led teams delivering visual effects on such Hollywood films as The Great Gatsby, Total Recall, White House Down, and the much anticipated Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Brett Ratner's Hercules. A man of multi-disciplinary talents, Merzin's leadership has also been key in the 3D conversion projects, most recently including Transformers: Age of Extinction, Guardians of the Galaxy, Maleficent, World War Z, Men in Black 3, Star Wars: Episode I, II & III, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and upcoming release Seventh Son. Forever enthused about new challenges, in 2012 Merzin built Prime Focus World's Animation from the ground up to facilitate work on a new toy-based episodic franchise, Legends of Chima.
